Very rare and breathtaking Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronograph with the reference 3970E in 18k yellow gold. This watch is the 3rd series of the 3970, the first to use the so-called ‘baton hands’, i.e. straight hands. This series was produced from 1990 to 1995 with a total of 1350 watches in four different materials. The watch has a dial called ‘argente’ and was produced in 1992.
The reference 3970 is one of the few watches where looking at the back is just as much fun as looking at the front. Through the glass back you can admire the Patek hand-wound calibre CH 27-70 Q, which is not based on the Lemania 2310 as many claim, but on the Lemania 2320. This movement was slightly more advanced and had a so-called swan-neck regulator and 21 rubies instead of 17. Patek Philippe also opted for a case size of 36 mm, a compromise between the two predecessors, the 1518 and 2499 with 35 and 37.5 mm diameters.
The watch comes on a PP leather strap with the original 18k yellow gold pin buckle. The gold hallmarks on the lugs are still deep and the watch is generally in very good condition. This really beautiful 3970 is completed by a full set with the original Patek box with outer box (the interior with the usual signs of aging) - PP guarantee certificate (sold in Dortmund on 11 February 1993) - 2nd solid case back - correction pen - leather folder - description of the 3970 - envelope - booklets.
