Patek Philippe 5035P Annual Calendar Noir Romaines Platinum Full Set 1999

Beautiful Patek Philippe annual calendar with the reference 5035P-001 in 950 platinum. Many people have and have always had the dream of owning a perpetual calendar from Patek, but for many this is and was too expensive. The perfect solution was provided by Patek Philippe in 1996 when they introduced the annual calendar, a complicated calendar watch for those who were too cost-sensitive to afford a perpetual calendar. The 5035 was viewed with great interest when it was launched, even at Baselworld, which was not exactly seen as favourable for complicated precious metal watches. At that time, sales were declining and the only safe choice was steel watches. In 1996, Europa Star 1996 published the figures for the first four months of the year, which showed an increase of 48.6 per cent (for steel watches), although exports from the Swiss watch market had fallen by 1.9 per cent in the first four months of 1995. At the time, Patek Philippe was led by Philippe Stern, who had the very complicated task of guiding the brand through an era in which many of its peers and competitors were trying to push upmarket with the apparent aim of making a quick and complication-driven buck. In response, Stern cut back on the production of complicated watches as a reaction, not realising the long-term effect of increasing the production of exclusivity. But to satisfy market demand, this "usable complication" (these were Stern's own words), also known as the 5035 Annual Calendar with the Patek automatic calibre 315 S QA, was created. This calibre was developed in-house by the manufacture's research and development team and is characterised by the fact that the functionality of the annual calendar is based on that of the base date. For this annual calendar, unlike the perpetual calendar movements, the calibre was designed in such a way that the cams, jumpers and levers are replaced by wheels and pinions. Calibre 315 uses a 24-hour wheel with two fingers to advance the date, with one finger active for months with 31 days and another finger for the months of April, June, September and November. In 1998, a power reserve indicator and a moon phase were added with the reference 5036, which for me personally makes the watch look too overloaded at a size of 37mm. Finally, the 5035 was discontinued at the end of 2004 and replaced in 2005 by the 5146, which was similar in construction to the 5036 but benefited from a more refined design and an updated case size of 39mm. This makes the watch look much cleaner and tidier. The history of the annual calendar continued at Patek Philippe and the reference 5960 in particular, with its so-called Tasti Tondi pushers, should not go unmentioned here, which also has a flyback chronograph and brings a sporty touch with it. This 5035 is in very good condition and comes on a Patek leather strap with the original PP buckle in 950 platinum. Of course, this Patek comes in a full set with the original box and outer carton - Certificate of Origin (sold in 1999) - Patek folder with booklets - description - register entry.
