Rare Rolex Sea Dweller Chronometer "Triple Six" with the reference 16660 in steel. In this case, the three consecutive 6ths have nothing to do with the devil. In many ways, this reference expresses the archetype of the "modern" Sea Dweller; it is equipped with a sapphire crystal, making it one of the very first Rolex watches to be fitted with one. This element and its larger case enabled it to achieve a higher water resistance of 1220 metres, double that of its predecessors. The reference 16660 also uses the calibre 3035, which offers a faster beat rate than the previous calibre 1575 and a quick adjustment, making the Sea-Dweller even more comfortable to wear. However, the 16660 can also be subdivided: On the one hand, watches with the early matte dial with painted indexes and those with the later glossy dial with white gold surrounds. In fact, this is more than just an aesthetic difference, as the painted indexes are another feature that is commonly thought to characterise vintage Rolex watches. So the 16660 with sapphire crystal and glossy dial can be seen as the purest modern Sea-Dweller, while the earlier matt version is more of a transitional configuration, offering a vintage look but modern security. The present watch has a beautiful matte Mark 1 dial, with the indices, luminous dots and hand play having a nice even vanilla tone. The bezel is classically rotatable for the Sea Dweller with 60 minute graduations. The watch is in very nice condition and comes in a full set with box and outer carton - Guarantee Certificate (no Date and Name entry) - Booklets - Anchor - Map. This item is directly available.
