Very rare and breathtaking Patek Philippe chronograph and perpetual calendar with the reference 3970EP in 950 platinum. Inside, the Patek hand-wound caliber CH27-70Q does its work (the basic caliber comes from Nouvelle Lemania). As the successor to the legendary 1518 and 2499, the reference 3970 follows in the enormous footsteps of these Patek Philippe icons. The expectations of all collectors and Patek Philippe enthusiasts were therefore very high in 1986, but they were exceeded! The 3970 was a complete success. With the 3970, Patek Philippe once again demonstrated that they could build iconic wristwatches like no other manufacturer. Like its predecessors, the 3970 became an absolute classic and the desire of every collector. The blend of the vintage design of its predecessors with a modern and timeless touch makes the 3970 one of the best watches that Patek Philippe has ever produced. This is why it is now known as the "mother of all watches". The 3970 was produced until 2004 and with every year that passes, it becomes more sought-after and rarer. The watch has a diameter of 36 mm and still has deep platinum hallmarks on the outside of the horns. This example has the extremely rare black dial with diamond indices, which is also registered on the certificate. This 3970 is in very good condition and is on a leather strap with a Patek pin buckle in 950 platinum. As every collector loves and desires, this watch comes in an absolutely complete package with box and outer box - correction pen - Patek guarantee certificate (sold in May 2004) - operating instructions. Rare speciality: according to the enclosed Patek price list, the platinum version was only delivered with the solid case back in this production year. My personal assessment of this masterpiece from Patek Philippe: The Swiss watch manufacturer has been in existence for almost 200 years now, during which time they have produced watches that inspire and leave every watch connoisseur speechless. For me, the 3970 will always be at the top of the list, but why? It's not the most complicated watch, it's not the most beautiful (this is of course a matter of taste) and it's not the rarest, but for me the 3970 is exactly what the brand stands for and why I love watches. The interplay of complexity, yet timeless elegance, the design that cannot be categorised as vintage but also not as modern. In my eyes an indescribable watch!
